Swim Meet 101

Here you will find what you need for meets, what to expect and some other information.  Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions

SWIM MEETS:

Swim meets are a time for our swimmers to shine.  It is somewhat organized chaos for those new to the competitive pool deck.  Important things to remember:

  • Check in with the coaches
  • Stay with the team
  • Wear your team suit, cap and t-shrt
  • Bring at least 2 pair of goggles (they break at the least convenient time)
  • A couple of towels
  • Water, Gatorade, Powerade
  • Healthy snacks (no nuts please as we have swimmers with nut allergies)
  • Chairs for parents!
  • Sun screen
  • Hat

Coaches will have 2 pop-up shelters and tarps for the ground.

This seems like a lot of stuff to bring, but you are best to be prepared for anything!

Coaches will have the swimmers events list with heat and lane.  Older swimmers (swim buddies) will help younger swimmers with their events.  They will help get swimmers to their block on time and prepared.

Please do not leave the meet without letting the coaches know!  There are relay events at the end of the meet and your swimmer may be needed, even if they are not currently entered.

Understanding the Swim Season:

Our regular season runs from mid-June until the SVSL Championship meet.  During our regular season we will have 7 meets and then the Championship meet.  You MUST participate in at least 2 regular season meets to qualify for the Championship meet.  THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS!

The first weekend in August is the VSA State meet.  You must meet the qualifying times as well as 3 regular season meets, Champs counts as a regular season meet.

Any swimmers not qualified for the VSA Meet or not participating in the VSA meet will have their last practice on the Friday before the SVSL Championship meet.  The final week is for VSA qualifiers/participants only.

VSA Qualifying times will be posted on our website once they are available.
